Pad colors are common conventions, not universal standards. Confirm the pad maker, finish manufacturer and machine manual.

Confirm the recommendation before use

Pad color is a common task signal, but manufacturers do not share one binding color standard. Verify the product’s stated task, machine-speed range, diameter and center-hole or mounting requirements. The same nominal color can differ in construction or aggressiveness between product lines.

Check the floor finish or coating guidance and start with the least aggressive approved option that can complete the task. Brush pressure, machine speed, chemical strength and dwell time combine with pad aggressiveness; changing several variables at once makes damage harder to diagnose. Test a small inconspicuous area, inspect it after drying and document the approved setup for other operators. A pad that is loaded, glazed, torn or mounted off-center should be cleaned or replaced rather than forced through another route.
