Arrange a demonstration with the intended pad on a representative floor. The operator should start, control side movement, work near but not into obstacles, manage the cord and stop safely. A clear empty showroom test does not reveal narrow rooms or public traffic.

Match every accessory, including speed

Confirm pad diameter, center-lock or driver system and maximum approved speed. Color is only a rough convention; pad construction and aggressiveness vary. Use the least aggressive pad that achieves the documented procedure, and never install a pad merely because it fits physically.

Determine whether a pad driver is included. Compare locally available pads and replacement drivers so consumables do not become special-order downtime. If brushes or bonnet-cleaning accessories are planned, verify them by model rather than assuming a universal attachment.

Account for cord and facility logistics

Most traditional buffers are corded. Map approved outlets, cable paths, doors and public crossings. Verify plug, circuit and manufacturer extension-cord rules. Inspect the full jacket before each use and keep it behind the rotating deck. Cable management can be the largest practical difference between two otherwise similar machines.

Consider storage height, handle folding, wheel movement and transport between levels. A heavy model may feel stable while operating but require unsafe lifting into a vehicle. Use ramps or transport methods approved for its weight.

Compare the complete ownership package

Request the exact machine, driver, starter pads, cord warranty, freight and service terms in each quote. Add cleaning or spray-buff products, replacement pads, staff training and wet pickup if the workflow requires it. Avoid static price claims because configurations and availability change.

After each use, unplug, clean residue from the machine and driver, remove and clean or discard the pad according to its instructions, inspect the cord and store without deforming accessories. A maintenance log reveals rising vibration or cord damage before it becomes a safety or floor-quality problem.

Use a small acceptance test instead of a shine promise

Define the test before delivery: the exact floor zone, current finish, cleaning preparation, approved product, pad, pass count and lighting used for inspection. Compare gloss consistency, swirl marks, edge control, operator effort, noise and time. A dramatic reflection in a sales video does not establish compatibility with your maintained floor.

Inspect again after normal traffic and the next cleaning cycle. Residue or an overly aggressive process may look impressive immediately but age poorly. Record the successful combination so later shifts do not substitute a different pad or chemical. A repeatable moderate result is more valuable than a one-time shine produced under undocumented conditions.
