Inspect the recovery hose for a loose connection, split, blockage, or sharp kink. Check the tank lid, gasket, drain hose cap, and other seals for gaps that admit air. If airflow is weak after accessible obstructions and seals are checked, stop and follow the model's service procedure rather than opening protected vacuum or electrical components.

Examine the squeegee at floor level

A running vacuum cannot recover water if the rear blade does not form a consistent seal. Remove grit, hair, and labels from the assembly. Look for torn, hardened, wavy, or unevenly worn blade edges, and verify that the blade is installed in the correct orientation. If the design permits blade rotation, use only an unworn edge and reinstall it evenly.

The squeegee should sit level enough to collect the water trail across its width. Incorrect angle, down pressure, caster height, or assembly position can leave water along one side or in the center. Make adjustments only as described for that model. Tight turns and excessive speed can also move the pickup assembly away from the solution path, so test again in a straight, slow pass.

Separate setup problems from mechanical faults

Too much solution can overwhelm pickup, particularly on uneven or textured floors. Heavy foam in the recovery tank may trigger shutoff or reach areas intended for air. Use a low-foaming product approved for automatic scrubbers and measure it accurately. If a nonapproved detergent was used, empty and rinse the system according to the manufacturer's directions before continuing.

Test one change at a time on a small area: tank level, hose seating, seals, squeegee cleanliness, blade condition, settings, and travel speed. Note whether the machine leaves a uniform film, side trails, or isolated puddles; the pattern helps locate the cause. Stop using the machine if there is electrical odor, abnormal vacuum noise, leaking near protected components, or a fault code requiring trained service.

Do not repeatedly run a machine that leaves substantial water in occupied areas. Isolate and dry the affected zone using an approved method, attach an out-of-service notice when required, and record the symptom and attempted checks.
